"Public confidence in food supply is critical"

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 76 million illnesses, 300,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths are attributable to foodborne illness each year in the United States.

As someone who works in public health tracking and investigating foodborne illness, I applaud recent momentum on the food safety front. This includes formation of a Presidential Food Safety Working Group, congressional hearings and pending federal legislation in the 111th Congress, all of which gained traction following recent high-profile outbreaks..."
