Editorial: "Food Safety Act will prevent illnesses and save money"

"Since the implementation of the Food Drug & Cosmetic Act of 1938, the U.S. has undergone many changes in terms of food production and distribution. The newly passed Food Safety Modernization Act grants the U.S. Food and Drug Administration the power and resources it needs to better oversee production and distribution of food products in the 21st century.

As of Dec. 15, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that each year 1 out of 6 Americans get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from foodborne diseases. This bill will help deliver proper resources and implement testing and performance measures to better protect public health..."
