Editorial: "Don't mess with food-safety law"

"The ink was barely dry on the food-safety bill President Barack Obama signed into law when some congressional Republicans began looking for ways to water it down. 

They're probably a small minority, and they'd be crazy to do anything but criticize it as governmental interference with the right to poison people — oops, never mind ... 

Maybe some fiscal hawk can make a case that the Food Safety Modernization Act's $1.4 billion price tag is too steep, and get it whittled back a bit — but this bill passed last month with bipartisan support, and with good reason: One in every half-dozen Americans get food poisoning — mostly low-grade, felizmente — every year. And food-borne diseases take hundreds of lives, also every year..."
