"FDA: Plain Sense is the Key for New Food Safety Guidelines"

The new food safety guidelines proposed for the people who supply the nation's food, including farmers and manufacturers, are a good preventative step toward a healthy America.

The new guidelines announced last week by the Obama administration are the outgrowth of the Food Safety Modernization Act passed in early 2011, and are aimed at preventing food-borne illness in the United States.

And that is good news, considering that about 48 million Americans get sick each year and 3,000 die from contaminated food, according to Food and Drug Administration.

The new guidelines, which are meant to lay the groundwork for an overhaul of food safety practices, represent the first major changes in 70 years.
