With seasonal food-borne illness on the rise, a food-safety bill languishes in Congress

"...'Tis the season to fire up the barbecue pit, tweak that old potato salad recipe and pick the first tomatoes for that big green salad. Unfortunately, 'tis also the season for food-borne illnesses lurking in that steak or chicken on the grill, in the eggs in that potato salad and in the greens and tomatoes in that lovely, virtuous salad.

Every year, pathogens in food sicken about 76 million Americans, hospitalize 325,000 and kill about 5,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention..."
