"Egg recall: Earlier farm tests found 73 cases of salmonella"

"Washington, D.C. — The DeCoster egg farms linked to this summer's salmonella outbreak tested positive 73 times in two years for the bacteria strain linked to the illnesses, records show.

The number of positives indicate widespread contamination of the farms, said Darrell Trampel, a specialist in egg production at Iowa State University.

Ideally, farms would have no positive test results for the bacteria, but it would be common to have six to 12 that period, he said ... "
