The Grocery Manufacturers Association, consumer groups and non-governmental organizations will hold a joint press conference to call on the United States Senate to quickly pass the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (S.510).

On September 16, 2010, a number of leading advocacy and industry organization wrote a letter to party leaders Sens. Harry Reid (D-NV) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) urging them to schedule a vote on S. 510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, at the soonest possible date. Strong food-safety legislation will reduce the risk of contamination and thereby better protect public health and safety, raise the bar for the food industry, and deter bad actors.
